Benefits of Strength Training for Women

fitness Mar 28, 2018

There are lots of benefits to strength training, the obvious one being that you will get stronger. That’s not the only reason to implement strength training into your fitness routine. Depending on how you go about it, you could burn fat, boost power and increase your muscle endurance. There are any number of women who avoid strength training because they think it will make them big and bulky. They assume it will make them look like a bodybuilder, but nothing could be farther from the truth. There are many benefits to strength training for women, but these are some of the best reasons for you to start implementing strength training into your routine today.

Accomplishing goals

Strength training isn’t all about pushing yourself until you collapse. You don’t need to lift until you are so sore you can’t brush your hair in the morning. That is not the goal with this kind of training, although that seems to be the popular opinion. Instead, it should be about being better than you were yesterday. Once your routine becomes easier, you can increase your reps or weight. You get to pat yourself on the back for a job well done. Set your goals with your workout and then work past them. Then reevaluate those goals and set new ones!

Stress busting

Had a rough day? When you are focusing on your form, there is no room in your mind for anything else. The focus you need in order to safely deadlift can help you push it all out of your mind. Exercise itself is a wonderful way to deal with day to day stress. Your body will release endorphins which will make you feel much calmer and collected after that great workout.

Boost your confidence

We ladies are often treated like we are delicate creatures. If you have never tried strength training you may just surprise yourself with your own strength. Gone are the days where we stay in the kitchen and don’t lift anything heavier than the pot roast. These days we want to be able to feel capable and confident in our own skin. You would be amazed at how great you will feel when you can do your first unassisted pull up!

Stronger bones

Osteoporosis is a big concern for us ladies as we get older. Weak bones are not something you want, and strength training can help with that. It’s an often overlooked benefit to strength training but it shouldn’t be ignored. As your bones get stronger, your chances of getting osteoporosis plummets. It may not make you look any better naked, but your future self will thank you.

You’ve tried everything else

You may have tried all the other forms of exercise and can’t seem to lose anymore weight. If you seemed to have hit a fitness plateau and can’t seem to get it to budge, it’s time to try out strength training. If you have tried tons of other programs and can’t seem to get the body you really want, lifting could be the key to your better body.
