Living Sacrifices

hope in struggle Aug 21, 2016

Are you where you want to be in life? Do you feel like you’re living out the purpose that God has for you? I’ve realized lately that the little choices we make in life matter just as much (or maybe even more) than the big ones. The smaller choices compound and they determine where we end up, and here is why...

Romans 12:1 tells us to present our bodies as living sacrifices, it does not tell us to present our hearts. I want to reflect on that for a minute because I think there’s a huge lesson to be learned from that.

We throw around the word love like it’s nothing but then our actions totally contradict what we’re saying we feel in our hearts. I can say I love my husband, but do my actions say that? I can say that I want to live a healthy lifestyle, but am I working out and eating right? So if we truly believe in our hearts what the Bible tells us, there has to be an outward reflection of that. We have to make a choice every day, and our lives have to prove the love we say we have in our hearts.

This is not easy. Presenting our hearts as sacrifices would actually be easier than presenting our bodies. There are so many people in this world that need to see the love of Christ and that is what we’re here for. We’re here to reflect Christ’s love to others and that can’t happen until we “die to self” and put our money where our mouths are.

My mom used to tell me that I walked into a room and believed that everybody loved me. While I know that’s not true, I’ve always loved other people and I knew that loving people was something that I was created to do. I’ve always had a desire to help others but the thing is, no one ever really took me seriously until I got my life together and learned to present myself the way I felt on the inside. I’m not talking about being attractive or losing weight. I’m talking about learning to manage money, eat right, exercise, and get my priorities straight. I started waking up earlier and spending time in prayer and when I started making God a priority, people started listening to me.

You and I were created for a bigger purpose, but we will never see that purpose come to fruition if we don’t start living out what we love and what we feel in our hearts is important. When we prioritize God, His desires become our desires, so we have the freedom to go out there and be who we are and do what we love!
